Pandita Won Inclusive Innovation Award at Nordic Day 2019

A locally initiated nonprofit organization, Pandita Development Institute (Pandita), was announced as one of the three winners of Inclusive Innovation award on February 15, in the 4th Nordic Day in Myanmar.

The 2019 Inclusive Innovation award, recognizing Pandita’s success in innovative civic education approaches and their subsequent impact on social media users’ awareness of democratic principles and practices was collected during the 4th Nordic Day Event, jointly hosted by the embassies of Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden, and Singapore based Nordic Innovation House, at the Nordic House in Myanmar.

Pandita has launched Civics Now, an online democracy education initiative since 2017 for Facebook users in Myanmar; informing knowledge on peace, sustainable development goals, bill of rights, principles of democracy and its practices through their quality contents. Civics Now’s fans across the country reached over 336K at the end of 2018.

In the information package from organizers, it explained: “Nordic Day is celebrated with a theme that reflects the core strengths and values rooted in the Nordic culture. This year’s theme Innovations highlights the interconnectedness between the Nordic welfare states and innovativeness. Encompassing both social and technological innovations, the theme allows businesses and NGOs to display their solutions to various challenges in all layers of society.”

Civics Now’s fans across the country reached over 336K at the end of 2018.

Embassy of Finland in Yangon announced in their Facebook page as follow: To highlight this year's theme Innovations, businesses and NGOs were invited to enter Inclusive Innovation Competition that sought affordable, accessible, applicable and scalable solutions for all segments of society.

Aye Khaing, an editor at Civic Now explained, “We aim to provide simple and informative content about democracy and its political process for people at large through online media. We target people in Myanmar age between 16 and 45 who use the internet to access civic education materials through our Facebook page”.

In addition to Pandita, two other companies were honored with Inclusive Innovation awards, including Zabai Myanmar and Telenor Myanmar for business sector.
